Saturday I went to see "Planet of The Apes." While I thought it was a pretty good film, if it hadn't been for Tim Burton it would have just been another movie, another re-make (re-imagining, whatever). The makeup was amazing but the makeup in the first films was awesome to begin with. This was a step up, though, and the visuals were overall impressive.
The story was pretty much the same as the Heston version but with the appropriate changes made and some new twists thrown in. The ending didn't do a whole lot for me and there were a lot of predictable parts added to this plot.
It was cool how the apes' mannerisms and methods of expression were like actual primates and not humanized like handshakes and hugs. I also liked how they actually shambled along and swayed like monkeys too instead of being perfectly upright like the original.
I have to say, though, that the chimp they had in the movie was one of the best actor chimps I've ever seen. And monkeys themselves lend some scenes some inherently funny material.
If you like the original POTA, if you like Burton's films, if you like primates, then you're probably going to like this movie.

Gagging and eye-stinging cigarette smoke, and platter of breaded fryer fat aside, I had a pretty good time tonight with Sharon and Nathan at Waterworks playing Simpsons trivia. Not only was it rather fun but we came in third place as the "I seemed to have misplaced my pants" team and received a sweet $25 bar tab.
I see more pub food in our future.
I won a free beer to boot! Though, I can't remember what the question was but that doesn't matter because Nathan ended up getting the free beer for my answer. No good to me beer is, is what I says.
The other night moi, and Nathan and Charlotte had a kick ass barbeque at Sharon's. Veggie kabobs and salmon kabobs with salad and Triple Chill Cake for dessert. Quite good. Oh yes, quite good.
It's 4:11am and I just made myself hungry. I'll just have to wait for a waffly breakfast.

I did some more work on my site this weekend but I still need so much content to get things ready for launch. Hopefully this week I'll be able to figure out how to make good icons and browser throbbers. Not only that but I still need to design sections and do some collaborative stuff too. Fortunately, I can upload without those sections but I do need something else there to make visits worthwhile.
For now, I've decided to add weekly to bi-weekly updates in the form of little projects. The first one up there now is entitled "Brun[e]: The Brown Chronicles." Check it out at dugost.com.
I recently added a new article to our website at work and will probably have a new one coming up in a couple of weeks. I little creative writing is good, and I'm lucky that I'm able to do it at work and at home. If you want to read my latest submission (basically a rant I got paid for), go here.
Tonight I went down to Spinnaker's to see Dave and Dwight's band play outside. It was pretty fun and it was a great show. I should probably try to go see them and other local bands more often. I've been lucky enough to see The Rattlesnakin' Daddies a few times now but I won't be able to see many more shows because I guess Troy and Mike are moving to Ontario soon. They'll do a lot better out there than they will here, I'm guessing.
After that we came back here and watched "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" It was really good, and funny, and had some great scenes. The overall look of the film (how they browned everything), gave the picture a really neat quality and looked kinda surreal in some shots.
I actually didn't mind George Clooney at all and enjoyed his character quite a bit, as well as John Turturro's (I am The Jesus...), and Tim Blake Nelson who played a great dumb guy.
I didn't know what to expect from the film other than it would be good because it's a Coen Brothers production, and I wish I had read or at least known more about Homer's Odyssey before I saw it.
Maybe I can read that after I finish my 2-year backlog of magazines...

Barbequed chicken, spinach and cream cheese stuffed mushroom caps, and lemon pepper linguine topped with sautéed peppers, onions and mushrooms were served up tonight for supper by the illustrious Tyler and Ryan Landry. As Tyler would say, "Quite the good."
After that we headed uptown to see the truly amazing "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within." GO SEE THIS MOVIE! Even if you don't like the story, the characters, or sci-fi (which are all quite good I might add), you'll be blown away by just how crazy it is that a movie completely composed of CGI is this lifelike. It's insane how realistic the characters and scenes are. While there are still a lot of things like mouth movement that will need to be refined in the future, facial expressions, and body language and movement is pretty much all there and extremely impressive. Skin tones, hair, fabriceverything is so unbelievably well done that seeing this movie for the technical aspects alone are more than worthwhile.
I was expecting the story and characters to probably be lame and for the whole thing to just be a big blob of eye-candy. And while the film is visually astounding, the story is pretty cool and the characters are very enjoyable.
I'm definitely going to see this flick again because it's just so damn cool to watch.

I don't even know write about really. Everything has been pretty bleh. I spent all day Saturday wondering at what point my creative cortex would kick in and it never really did. I went ahead and tried to develop the Flash content for my site, and managed to knock out a nice chunk but there's still so much left to do. I'm not even sure if I'm completely happy with what I've done.
Interface and multimedia design isn't exactly my forté so coming up with ideas and sketching out designs and working out the structure for the planning stage is almost as hard as actually making an impressive design with some type of concept or theme.
The redesign is what is going to kill me. I know I'm going to want to overhaul the whole thing two months after it goes live. I hate to do that but it will probably need to be done. The "life expectancy" for sites like the one I'm going to have always seems to be relatively short. It seems like such a waste of time and effort to build a really nice site that lasts a year or so. Especially considering the fact that I've been paying for hosting for almost a year and have nothing to show for the money I've spent.
Ah, but such is the way of change and creativity. Out with the old and in with the newer and improved.
I guess I'll just have to keep working on revamping it after it's live so that when I do decide to launch the second version, it will not take as long to get everything up on the Web.

Today is Canada Day and I celebrated by going to Spinnaker's Landing with Nathan and Charlotte to see a band before the poorly organized fireworks display. I was stuck in line waiting to buy some fudge when I started to hear the first blasts that were not preceeded by any announcement.
The display was the usual Summerside fare and the whole procedure of going to see them was pretty much the same as every other recent year. I go with friends, meet up with a few more downtown, see a bunch of morons and idiots I can't stand and have to mingle in amongst a crowd full of sals and homely people milling about.
Now I don'r exactly rate very high on the good looks meter myself but why is that so many people in this "city" are as ugly as the bottom of the harbour? Is it inbreeding? A sparsely populated gene pool? Is it the West End factor? Is there something in the water? I mean, there are going to be ugly people and that's fine, whatever, but there just seems to be a heavy concentration of them around here.
I'm not trying to sound like I'm some "lah-dee-dah" type who's better than everyone else because I'm not. I'm just making an observation, and I think a lot of other people would agree with me on this fact. I'm guessing that even some of the ones I speak of would take my side.
I'm going to change the subject from lackluster pyrotechnics and homely citizens to smelly barns and cute animals now. Yesterday, Ian and Holly and myself went to a petting farm to see all sorts of animals like puppies and kitties and horses and buffalo and goats and ducks and bunnies. I took about 60 digital pics and a lot came out surprisingly well. I wonder how well they will print out since quite a few of them would look nice framed or something.
It had been quite a long time since I had been to the Doo Duck Inn to visit the animals. I especailly remember the buffalo they have there. I remember it being so weird to see those animals on PEI when I was a kid. I think I can remember seeing buffalo at another animal park or something in Cavendish when I went with my grandparents one day.
Maybe it was just a dream. Who knows? It's hard to tell sometimes what I really did and what I just imagined.
