I'm never taking a nap again because next thing I know I've had half a night's sleep. Now it's almost 3am and it'll probably be 5am before I get to sleep.

I had a pretty full weekend for once. Besides all of the preparation needed for moving, I went to see a movie, went to a pre-Halloween party and made antipasto.

One Hour Photo

I finally got to see One Hour Photo on Friday. It was really good but I certainly didn't leave with a happy feeling. It was a simple story but it was told so well and had a lot to say about a good many things. Robin Williams did an excellent job and I can't believe anyone would have given him a negative review for that movie. There wasn't one thing about it that I didn't like. Even the opening credits were awesome and so was the score.

Saturday night, the Maros' has a party and I dressed up as Mr. Dim yet again. It was pretty laid back and I got to eat lots of Nick's pizza and snacks. He could have $15 at the door and I still would have went.

Sunday I helped Dave and Wanda make antipasto which we split on and now I have a whole bunch of the stuff to last me the year…or so I'd like to think. It's so good even though it's filled with a bunch of stuff I normally don't eat like olives, pickles, and stuff.

This week ir going to be filled with moving activities which is always lots of fun. But the highlight will be Halloween when I'm going to do my best to make at least one parent cry after scaring them.

Hacking CoughJust when I start to get somewhere in trying to whittle down my to-do lists one of my hard drives goes clickety-clack. What does this mean? It means I have to backup as much data as I possibly can before a bad sector becomes a rotten-sonnuvabitch sector. Thankfully I have an external drive and a DVD-RAM drive so that 20GB later I'm only out a hard drive and some time.

I spent most of Sunday fixing this problem as best I could and doing a backup. I only lost a couple of files which weren't all that important anyway. Tonight I wasted another full evening swapping drives from G3 to G4 and wrestling with miserable cords, adapters, and itsy bitsy screws. The tips of my fingers are ravaged and my blood pressure is only now coming down from the boiling point.

the ringIf you like to be scared shitless then go see The Ring. I went to see this with Kira, Tyler and Melissa on Friday, and this is honestly one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. It has an excellent plot, amazing cinematography, and is just an all-around creepfest. There have been some really good scary movies come out in the past few years (Session 9, What Lies Beneath) but this one takes the cake. It's completely fucked up and seemed pretty original to me (well, excluding the fact that it's a remake of a Japanese flick). The imagery and the feeling it gives you along with some of the twisted sequences left me thinking about them quite a bit afterwards.

It would be nice if good, truly frightening movies of this caliber could come along every few months because I'd be at the theatre all the time. I'm definitely buying this one on DVD when it comes out, mostly for the fact that I can show it to people who haven't seen it and scare the hell out of them.

I feel like a bloated, moaning manatee. Two days each with their share of gigantic meals. From now on it's no longer Thanksgiving to me, it's DigestFest or Gluttony Day. I swear that I don't want to go through the discomfort of eating more than what is healthy for me like I did yesterday ever again. But time and time again I end up doing just that.

There's no sense in me ever trying to eat like a healthy person because I just like eating too much of too many things. I enjoy eating. Boy, do I love eating. I'm going to end up being a fat, old man when I'm 27 or something.

I want cookies.

Saturday night we went to see Red Dragon. As usual, Anthony Hopkins succeeded in creeping me out like he did in the other two Hannibal movies. I swear that if I met him he'd probably make me wet my pants because he's so intimidating on screen. Edward Norton, also as usual, was great and makes any movie I've ever seen him in enjoyable. He's definitely one of my favourite actors hands down.

While I didn't think the movie was as good as the two previous installments, it was really well done and sufficiently twisted, intelligent, and shocking. Hannibal has the highest shock factor of them all though.

The only thing about this movie was that it felt more like a stand-alone serial killer flick. Silence of the Lambs and even Hannibal seemed to have more of an "event" feel to them. But I really enjoyed this movie and liked seeing so many great actors in one flick. I was worried at first after seeing previews that it was going to have the "flavour of the day" actors in it but everyone was solid in my book, especially because they've been in so many great movies in the past.

I was kind of glad but also kind of not that I didn't have the lingering sense of shock today that Hannibal left me with after seeing it last year. There were some harsh parts for sure but compared to the shit done in the last one this was a walk in the park.

***

I went to Kira's for supper and Nick cooked calamari. The stuff certainly has a lingering odour but it tasted damn good. I've been trying to have some of this stuff ever since I sampled a piece last year at the Maros' Halloween party. Kira was kind enough to invite me over to finally satisfy my curiosity of what more than one piece tastes like.

After that, we went over to Tyler and Melissa's to play Mah Jong and eat apple cake. We're getting way too addicted to that game, and I'm getting way too addicted to her desserts. But it's good that I'm finally getting some use out of that set Lee got me a few years back. It's just been sitting on my shelf collecting dust and begging to be played. If we don't burn out on it any time soon then I can see October being the Mah Jong month.
