  — Smells so real you'd swear it was authentic.

So I was walking to the Co-op today to get a few groceries when I see this guy walking toward me on the sidewalk. It's this guy with Down Syndome I always see walking around town. As I get closer and am about to pass him he stops, looks at me and starts opening his mouth and hissing. I could tell right away there was something really messed up with his teeth and I was wondering just what the hell he was doing.

Turns out he was wearing a set of those novelty vampire teeth and apparently he was just walking around pretending he was a vampire. You know, regular Wednesday evening strolling material. Must have watched Buffy or something.

He keeps hissing at me then raises his arms up in the classic Dracula pose and begins growling and hissing at me. Not knowing what to do, I just played along and pretended I was scared and kind of jogged away. What else was I supposed to do?

He walks backwards away from me, still snarling with his arms raised, and then I think he said thank you to me. For what, I don't know. It certainly snapped me out of my end-of-day-want-to-kill-everyone mood.

Last weekend I went with Kira to see Hot Toddy play. Free tickets are always good and the show was great. They were damn good musicians and the standup bass is always awesome. Kira said the bass player reminded her of a turtle but I didn't really see what she meant.

The songs were blues and jazz but sort of all over the place—just a nice variety of tunes. Plus they had a great stage presence with their wit and the jokes. Good stuff.

Tonight I saw Being There, and Peter Sellers was the best. He's good in everything though—he can do anything. It's one of those comedies that doesn't seem like a comedy but it was sort of a sad flick at the same time. Tough to describe but it had an almost Forrest Gump-ish quality in the story line. I actually felt like watching it again right after it was over because Peter Sellers is just so fun to watch.

GarfieldWhen I was a kid I loved the Garfield comic strip. I was obsessed with drawing all of the characters, I watched the cartoons and had a number of the books. It wasn't so much that I thought the comics were "ha ha" funny but merely that they were amusing. I just enjoyed the drawing style mostly.

Now I just don't find the comics funny at all. It's not like they stopped being funny, it's just that they never really were funny to begin with and I was just a dumb kid who thought they were.

I saw some entertainment news segment on TV the other day and they mentioned that they're planning on making a Garfield movie. I don't remember who they said was in it but I got the impression it was going to be live action which is stupid because look how bad Scooby Doo was. Unless it's fully animated, how are they going to be able to pull off making the movie look good at all with someone playing Jon and animating Garfield and Odie in 3D?

I can't see how they can make this work. The comics aren't funny enough across 3 panels let alone in a 2-hour movie.
