The 28th
Spider-Man '67 CollectionI got my Spider-Man '67 Collection DVDs today and they look amazing. No pun intended. They're so clear and vibrant compared to anything being shown on TV. It's honestly one of the best collections out there on DVD that I've bought so far. It almost looks like new animation trying to look like the old styles—Harvey Birdman and Robert Smigel types.

Now if only they could get the soundtrack put together. I would honestly pay $100 for that one CD alone because it's some of the best and most classic music out there.

I think I'm going to puke. I went to Pizza Delight with Shawn, Luke and Nathan tonight. Against my better judgement, I went for the buffet and am regretting it. Buffets are the work of the Devil and have become his demonic lures for the weak-willed. Obese people have a harder time getting away from his minions when the hordes start showing up.

I ate way too much and have been uncomfortably full all night. Oh, and of course, we had to go to Frosty Treat when I was already stuffed like a fat, dying pig. Their ice cream is so good though that it's worth the extra pain.

It was pretty cool driving there as we were keeping up with a dark cloud just pouring down rain and there was this huge rainbow. Then there was a double-rainbow which is something I don't think I've ever seen before. When we got back in town there was a ton of lightning too from some more dark clouds. Of course, the night I thought of bringing my camera out with me is the night I don't bother.

The 24th
I went for a bike ride tonight around midnight and I guess I wasn't the only person out enjoying the nice summer night. Two guys were playing basketball at the park on an unlit court and then uptown in a parking lot there were half a dozen guys playing frisbee. That's the most activity I've seen at that time of night other than the rituals of bar trash and rednecks.

At the memorial park the city started making what looked like this little pond. I didn't have very high hopes for the finished product but they surprised me yet again. It's still a little pond but they have some nice landscaping around it, a couple of little bridges and a small waterfall at the back. I was impressed that it didn't end up as some kind of algae-covered mud hole. Plus the smell of the new wood on the bridges was really nice too. I think it must have been spruce because it smelled like a sauna.

I just wonder how long it will be before the first drunk stumbles into it and drowns or teenagers pour dish soap into it.

I cooked up some English Style fish and chips I bought at the Superstore last week and I think I'm going to puke. I think there's just something about having battered fish cooked in the oven that has become increasingly unappetizing. It just becomes this gooey, sloppy mess with grease everywhere. At least when it's deep fried it's crispy with grease everywhere. I'm getting more nauseated the more I think about it.

I'm going for x-rays on my knee tomorrow so I can meet the pre-requisite to go see an specialist even though the doctor says they won't show anything cartillage-related anyway. Just a formality. And he can't just send me to have an MRI anymore either. He has to have the specialist do that so there's yet another step in the bureaucracy of health care. But at least we have health care.

The 14th
Bubba Ho-TepI rented Bubba Ho-Tep with Shawn and Kira last week and I think I could probably watch it every day of the week. It was one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a long time. It was a combination of so many strange elements that I think it's impossible not to like it. A retired Elvis in an old folks home befriends a delusional black man who thinks he's JFK and both come together to save the elderly residents from a mummy come back to life that feeds on their souls. Did I mention Elvis has a cancerous, foul growth on the end of his wang?

Bruce Campbell played the perfect old Elvis and Ossie Davis was really good. It had just the right mix of camp, comedy, horror, goofiness, and drama. I have to go buy this DVD for sure. But where to put my poster...?

So there's nothing like getting to work on a Monday to be told you're getting laid off. Joy.

The Day After Tomorrow PosterI saw The Day After Tomorrow the day before yesterday and got what I expected. Typical disaster movie fare but it was fun to watch nonetheless, especially with the harsh destruction scenes. The dialogue was just enough to push the plot forward and was cheesy without being too cheesy. It didn't surprise and it didn't disappoint. The effects were great though and really that's the only reason I went to see it.

Oh man, I didn't need to eat as much as I did today. Went out for lunch, went out for dinner, went out for ice cream, went out for dinner again (but I only got tea), and then went out for dessert at Tim Horton's and ended up getting two desserts. Too much food and spending too much money. I should just stay at home tomorrow and eat tuna out of a can.
