The 29th
Perhaps I'm naive to the way food is prepared in restaurants but wouldn't it make sense to keep foods like pancakes and French toast on opposite sides of the grill away from contaminants such as onions? Maybe it's just me but I particularly dislike having chunks of onion on the underside of a pancake or the distinct flavour of onions infused into my French toast. I just think it would be great if onions stayed where they belong, mingled in with hashbrowns or atop burger patties.

I went to see The Forgotten tonight with Nathan and Catherine. It was pretty good and had some good scares. The whole theatre shook a couple of times from everyone jumping and screaming. That's always fun. The story itself was interesting but nothing all that new. I was hoping for something much more sinister or twisted but I could kind of see everything shaping up as the movie went along. I always like Julianne Moore though.
What I don't like are teenagers. Stupid, mouthy teenagers who won't shut their stupid teenager mouths. I sound like an old man when I bitch about stuff like this but I know I didn't act that way in theatres when I was in my teens. That was only 10 years ago. They just don't know how to shut up during a movie and don't react the way normal people should. Between the cell phones, stupid fake-fade jeans, attitude and overall rudeness, I'm not sure which part is worse. Teenagers just suck. But chances are, if you're a teenager and you're reading this then you're probably okay in my books. Probably.

The Pumpkin Monkey Studios section of my site has been re-designed and updated with a number of new videos, including the first in a series of skits called Shawn Says. Go to dugost.com > Sensory > Pumpkin Monkey Studios to see the new content.
I went over to the Maros' house tonight to have a going-away-type-of-fondue thing for Kira. I bought a bunch of sponge-like cake and fruit and chocolate and now I'm sick because I ate way too much of it. But it's fondue…you have to go overboard or why bother?

Tonight I went to see Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and was completely blown away. The look of the film is beautiful and is stylized so well to match the serials of the 30s and 40s. It's like a live-action pulp novel with the classic types of heroes, villains, rockets and robots. You can tell how much the director must have loved the Fleischer Superman serials because some of the robots look like some from one particular episode. He paid homage to so many things and does it well.
All of the characters were great, the story couldn't be more classic, and the editing, design, and approach were so perfect that I've never been more pleased to see any film in a long time. I think it's probably one of the most unique movies that has come out in the last few years. The first 10 minutes alone were enough to warrant the ticket price. I'm only guessing but I'm sure seeing this film is what it must have been like to be a kid going to see Superman, Batman or Buck Rogers on screen 70 years ago.

Could I possibly spend any more money on food? I don't want to know what my daily average is for eating at restaurants. I have to start cooking at home again now that the heat has gone because the money being spent on food other than groceries is ridiculous. I mean, I spent $15 tonight at Cedar's on a falafel and coffee. I don't even LIKE falafels so it was even more of a waste.
In any case, after Cedar's I went with Debbie and Nathan to see Dale play in the Patsy Cline show at The Mack. It wasn't quite what I expected but it was pretty good. The one playing Patsy could really belt it out and the crazy guy they had playing all of the other characters was perfect for the comedic relief. The band sounded great too except for some cheesy-sounding choices on the piano side of things.
